On most evenings I enjoy spending a couple of hours reading comments and posts on Singapore Fountain Pen Lovers’ Facebook page. Having a hobby is such a time-consuming activity – but it is time well-spent! I learn quite a bit of stuff from there from all sorts of people. When a general post comes up, you see people from all kinds of perspectives popping up to present their views. I love different perspectives. Not necessarily in an arguing-sort of way, but in a sharing kind of way. First you may see someone talking about grinding and tuning nibs. Then you may see someone who has a vast knowledge of calligraphy and writing. And there will be some who are more concerned about paper. Also the ones who would rather splurge on a variety of inks. Some people sell their pens to get some money to fund their next pen. Others talk about expensive collections or cheap ones. Then there are newbies like me who try blend in and learn more at the same time, but eventually it seems that I talk more about fountain pens from a left-hander’s point of view – perhaps this is my “specialization” huh?
