Finally, I’m blogging about a really cool day – the day of a really cool fountain pen meet in Singapore! It was held yesterday at the McDonalds’ at King Albert Park. We had about 20 people turning up and it was considered a good number already, considering that the number of -enthusiastic- and -active- fountain pen enthusiasts in our tiny island city is pretty small! There are also many people who really wanted to come but could not make it, due to their job or personal commitments. So imagine if everyone was able to make it, it would have been really spectacular! Thanks to Danny from Fook Hing (one of our favourite local pen stores), we managed to get sponsored items as “door gifts” from Sailor Japan: bottles of Sailor Jentle inks! It was definitely a great bonus for us. The inks were given out at random but I already heard some of them talking about exchanging samples already. Those who went had different purposes. I have been so busy with my new job that I haven’t been very connected to the stationery world recently. I haven’t been aware of this but… THERE IS AN OFFICIAL DAY FOR FOUNTAIN PENS!!! Many thanks to the Fountain Pen Day committee who emailed me regarding this exciting piece of news. I may not have time to blog new reviews, but I sure would have time to talk about this very important day. Of course, the name is known as “Fountain Pen Day“. Sweet and simple and to the point. When is it? MARK YOUR CALENDARS, YOU ALL!!! It’s going to be celebrated on the first Friday of November each year. The very first fountain pen day is going to be on 2nd November 2012. It will consist of my humble two cents’ (drops) on things in general, but of course related to stationery and writing. Not fortnightly inkings, nor a review, but just some scribblings of the things I think about. Today, in particular, I will talk about what I would look for in a fountain pen. The design The reason why I am collecting brands of fountain pens now instead of focusing a few favourite brands is that I want to try the lower price range of pens from different brands before moving up the ladder. Hey dear Readers, I am finally back from my two-week Spain and France trip! Actually I already touched down in Singapore on the night of 12 May, but there had been so many stuff going on that I really hadn’t the time to reply to stuff, read all the Twitter posts I missed, read all the blog posts I missed, nor even BLOGGED! Don’t ask me what happened, it’s a long list of long stories. You must be excited and anticipating my show-off of all the nice stuff I bought from Europe, eh? On most evenings I enjoy spending a couple of hours reading comments and posts on Singapore Fountain Pen Lovers’ Facebook page. Having a hobby is such a time-consuming activity – but it is time well-spent! I learn quite a bit of stuff from there from all sorts of people. When a general post comes up, you see people from all kinds of perspectives popping up to present their views. I love different perspectives. Not necessarily in an arguing-sort of way, but in a sharing kind of way. First you may see someone talking about grinding and tuning nibs. Then you may see someone who has a vast knowledge of calligraphy and writing. And there will be some who are more concerned about paper. Also the ones who would rather splurge on a variety of inks. Some people sell their pens to get some money to fund their next pen. Others talk about expensive collections or cheap ones.
