Happy Golden Jubilee, Singapore!
9 August 2015 marked the day Singapore turns 50 ever since gaining independence in 1965. For all my fellow Singaporeans and those living in Singapore, I hope you had a blast during the Jubilee long weekend of 7-10 August! To commemorate this exhilarating year, a task force has been set up to support the year-long celebrations, and it’s called SG50. Throughout the island, one can see the SG50 red dot printed on many places, and as you all already know, on fountain pens too.
Before we all get back to work and school tomorrow, let’s have a look at which SG50 fountain pens are up and running about right now, and where to get them (if you’re still able to)!
Staedtler SG50 Flora and Fauna Limited Edition Fountain Pen
Staedtler was the first that I’ve heard which launched an SG50 pen. It features a Crimson sunbird and the Vanda Miss Joaquim orchid, Singapore’s national flower, imprinted on cowhide leather using Staedtler’s innovative inkjet technology. Such a colourful fountain pen, but is limited to only 98 pieces in the country. Check out my #pendelight article about this pen written here.

Graf von Faber Castell Snakewood – SG50 Limited Edition Set

Photo source: Fook Hing Trading Co.
The Graf von Faber Castell Snakewood pen is one of the most coveted pens in the range, and yes, they had 50 sets of the fountain pen, rollerball, ballpoint and pencil set made, just for SG50. There are only 50 sets available worldwide, with serial numbers 1-50 are engraved on the trims. This set was featured during the reopening ceremony of the Faber Castell boutique at ION Orchard Singapore which you can read about here. I’m afraid that the last I’ve heard, all of them have been taken up, but you could still try your luck and enquire about it anyway…

Online VISION Special Edition Calligraphy Set
You may remember this calligraphy set from my recent giveaway on OFP (if you totally missed this, perhaps it’s time you subscribed to my blog to stay informed of new posts!). Online Germany has released a Special Edition of their VISION Calligraphy Set in an exotic bamboo gift box, together with a bottle of Rubin Red ink. The map of Southeast Asia featuring Singapore as the star of the region is diamond-engraved on the brushed red barrel of the pen, making it look bright and elegant. Check out my article on this set right here.

Lamy Safari SG50 Fountain Pen

Photo source: Lamy Singapore Facebook page
Everyone in the fountain pen world seems to own, or at least know someone who owns, a Lamy Safari fountain pen. Lamy Singapore has joined in the celebrations by releasing the SG50 Lamy Safari fountain pens, in combinations of either red barrel + white cap, or white barrel + red cap. Why red and white, you may ask. The Singapore flag consists of these exact two colours. The SG50 logo is also printed on the caps of the pens. You can also buy a bottle of Lamy red ink to match up ink and pen!

Montblanc Meisterstück White Solitaire (Special Edition) Commemorative Pens

Last but not least, I’ve visited the Montblanc SG50 showcase at Ngee Ann City yesterday (scroll to the bottom of the post for photos) to check out their Meisterstück White Solitaire fountain pen, also released to commemorate SG50. It’s a very elegant luxury piece in white and rose gold (the combination of which seems to be the “in” thing for fountain pens). I saw for myself that the Marina Bay skyline was engraved all around the section of the pen, and it’s really beautiful. There were 100 fountain pens released together with 200 rollerballs and 200 ballpoint pens, and the last I’ve heard, they have also either been sold or under reservation. Still, you could enquire to try your luck.

I write with my left hand, but can also do the same with my right hand – it just won’t look very pretty.
I live in Australia & will be in Singapore Wednesday – what are the best fountain pen shops – there seem a lot of different venues?
Welcome to Singapore! Yes there are a few stores here but personally I tend more towards Fook Hing Trading Co. (at Bras Basah complex level one) and Aesthetic Bay (ION Orchard level 4, they also have a Faber-Castell boutique beside them on the same level). You can check out my page for a list of some of the stores. https://onfountainpens.com/sg-stores-services/
