I’ve been rather busy and still ill, so I’m going to just put up a short post! The Singapore Fountain Pen Lovers have just had a pen meet on Saturday, May 30, 2015. The turnout had been excellent, and there has been a lucky draw as well! Everyone was eyeing the prizes as they are Montblanc products sponsored by Fook Hing Trading Co.
The meet was held at the Tea Party Cafe again, which seems to be our usual haunt for official pen meets. It’s a spacious cafe with a nice concept, and serves good food! Despite the abundance of space in the cafe, it was almost literally overflowing with fountain pen enthusiasts.
There was an ink testing station set up at a corner of the cafe, where we could go and have a look at the 8 Montblanc fountain pen inks in beautiful slipper glass bottles. As admin, I helped to prepare ink swab samples for ease of colour referencing. I also brought two glass pens for the members to dip into the bottles of inks to test out the colours.
It was so crowded that, being the introvert that I am, I didn’t know really who to talk to, and where to start mingling from! I made a beeline towards Urner (Singaporean nibmeister, also known as Flexynibs), as he has brought a variety of fountain pens with modified nibs. Some of them had Spencerian modifications, while others are good for copperplate. A couple of nibs were just modified for spring or a tiny amount of flex. It’s amazing what Urner can do with the nibs! The most difficult modification he had to do was probably on the Pilot Vanishing Point which he had brought as well, since the nib was so tiny!
The prizes sponsored by Fook Hing Trading Co. have been pretty attractive. Other than 20 assorted colours of the fountain pen inks, the top 4 prizes have been:
4th – Montblanc MST Classic Pen Pouch (for 1 Pen)
3rd – Montblanc MST Classic Pen Pouch (for 2 Pens)
2nd & 1st prizes – Montblanc Starwalker Urban Speed Fountain Pen
I’m sure everyone who won are excited and happy about it!
As I was busy administering the lucky draw process, I haven’t had the chance to take photos of the prizes themselves, nor the winners. If you’d like to have a look at more photos, check out Inkypassion’s blog post.
