Time flies and on February 28, 2015, the Singapore Fountain Pen Lovers (SFPL) Facebook group was due for yet another pen meet, for the month of February.
This time, it was held at the Tea Party Cafe which has been volunteered by one of our members, and what a nice cafe it was! We had a turnout of about 50+ and although the turnout number is around the same for the last 2 months, I am still pretty amazed, as our pen meets used to only have 20 odd at the maximum.

Retro posters and stonewashed walls at the Tea Party Cafe!

Delicious-looking food at the cafe, but this belongs to my fellow admin and not me…
This pen meet was sponsored by Wahl-Eversharp, an American company well known for the Doric and the Skyline pens, and Fook Hing Trading Co. Wahl-Eversharp has lately been revived after sitting in a quiet corner for almost 50 years, so, while I have not really tried their pens before (except for a little golden Wahl ringtop vintage pen that I like), I hope they are making a bunch of nice fountain pens!
The prizes sponsored by Wahl-Eversharp were:
- 1st Prize:
SKYLINE Classic Collection – Black Resin with Gold Plated Cap/Trim Fountain Pen
14kt Semi-Flex Fine Stub Nib – Customised by Pendleton BrownPrizes nicely wrapped in boxes
- 2nd Prize:
SKYLINE Classic Collection – Navy Blue Resin with Gold Plated Cap/Trim Fountain Pen
Stainless Steel (Ceramic Coated) Semi-Flex Fine Stub Nib – Customised by Pendleton Brown - 3rd Prize:
SKYLINE Classic Collection – Black Resin with Palladium Plated Cap/Trim Fountain Pen
Stainless Steel (Ceramic Coated) Semi-Flex Fine Stub Nib – Customised by Pendleton Brown
What is a Ceramic Coated nib??? I wish I could have the chance to try that out, but I didn’t win any of the pens. However a good friend of mine and a fellow blogger has won the second prize: Nicholas Yeo from Inky Passion! I am both envious and happy for him, and of course, we all look forward to a review by him soon, don’t we? 😀 Let’s also see if he will give me a chance to try that pen out myself!

Everyone waiting expectantly as admins draw the winning numbers from a bag
This month’s meetup was more manageable than the past ones, and I managed to get a chance to try out many pens after completing my admin duties. Jeffrey was sitting beside me, and I managed to try out a variety of his awesome fountain pens. I made my Renover notebook that I received from a previous pen meet into a curation of writing samples. I divided each page into 4, and in each part, I tested out pens and inks. Some of the pens I tried included a Kaweco Liliput in brass, a Pilot Murex (finally!), an awesome Sailor King of Pens Mozaique, a Montblanc Meisterstuck Diamond LeGrand, a Montegrappa Miya, and a Montegrappa Emblema.
Besides the wonderful prizes, there were also door gifts sponsored by Wahl-Eversharp as well, which was a choice between a bottle of Everberry ink, or a pen pouch. Many were eyeing the pen pouches, although the inks all got snapped up pretty quickly too! And who wouldn’t – it is a whopping 80mL of blue-indigo awesomeness! I haven’t tried out the ink yet but I did a swab on a piece of card for you all to be jealous of, in the following picture:

Colours may vary according to screens. But trust me, it’s a vibrant blue-indigo colour, the Everberry colour
And the pen pouch is a slim leather zipper pouch, and the leather is high quality Napa full grain leather. It first appeared at the Ohio Pen Show last year, according to Wahl-Eversharp’s Facebook page.
I had been looking forward to the pen pouch ever since the prizes were announced before the meet, and I was delighted to see the twisted design of the zipper tag, and feel the soft suede lining inside the pouch.
Yes, it’s a little bit tiny, but if you don’t have the tendency to bring numerous pens out with you, you can keep your workhorse pen in here to carry around. I tried to fit a couple of types of fountain pens into the little pouch – let’s see how it goes:

My ginormous Campo Marzio Big Fountain Pen. It fits exactly nicely in this Wahl-Eversharp pen pouch. Please don’t judge me regarding the size of the pen…
Yes, you could try to squeeze two medium-sized fountain pens into the bag, but it would be a snug fit, and I wouldn’t recommend that if you want to prevent possible scratches by the pens rubbing against each other inside the pouch. I normally bring 1-2 fountain pens to work if any, so this seems like a great accessory for me!
Now, I know many of you didn’t manage to attend the pen meet, and I know there are some of you outside Singapore who would like to have a Wahl-Eversharp pen pouch for yourself, and I also know that OFP hasn’t had a giveaway for a long time… so I’m really happy to announce that I have been sponsored 3 pen pouches for a giveaway! I write with my left hand, but can also do the same with my right hand – it just won’t look very pretty.
A pen show may be quite tough to organize, in terms of logistics! But we do consider having it sometimes. Hopefully it will materialize one day.
Thank you for this giveaway as I wasn’t able to attend the meeting =))
Awesome pen meet as usual , trying to win for my friend.
That’s a beautiful blue ink, and how nice of them to give everyone a full bottle! Maybe I should move to Singapore. I love your blog and follow it regularly.
